Dr. Rajendrakumar (Raj) Patel has been practicing medicine since 2012, with a focus on primary care in Somerset. With over twelve years of experience, Dr. Patel brings a diverse background that includes roles as a primary care physician, hospitalist, and educator.
Dr. Patel is a medical graduate from Baroda Medical College in Baroda, Gujarat, India. He pursued a Master of Science in Public Health from Arcadia University in Glenside, Pennsylvania. Dr. Patel graduated from Mercer University School of Medicine in Georgia and began his career as an academic hospitalist at Emory University Hospital Midtown in Atlanta, where he worked with medical students and residents. He held the position of Assistant Professor of Medicine at Emory University School of Medicine and graduated at the top of his class. During his residency, he received numerous awards, including “Resident of the Year” awards from faculty, clinical staff, medical students, and “Physician of Physicians,” as well as “Best Teacher” and “Best Intern”. He also earned the “Academic Excellence Award” for achieving the highest score on the in-service exam during his third year of residency. Dr. Patel is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and has a strong interest in teaching residents and medical students. He has published several papers and presented posters and oral presentations at regional and national conferences.
Relocating to New Jersey due to family ties, Dr. Patel currently sees patients at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset, various rehabilitation facilities, and clinics. He was also involved in teaching family medicine residents at RWJ University Hospital Somerset from December 2019 to February 2023. He received an award of "Best teacher" by family residents at the RWJUH in Somerset. His certifications include the American Board of Internal Medicine, ACLS, and BLS.
In his spare time, Dr. Patel enjoys playing tennis, engaging in outdoor activities, and traveling. He also values spending time with his wife and two children.
